The states have historically been one of the primary enforcers of gaming regulation, whether it relates to illegal activity, or regulating legalized sports gambling on a state-by-state basis. Given this dynamic and a rapidly changing legal environment, state Attorneys General are being asked to advise and counsel state stakeholders in this space.
Many Attorneys General are responsible for providing legal opinions, legislative guidance and enforcement activity within their state.
Attorneys General play integral roles in partnering with regulators, law enforcement, and industry to curtail illegal sports betting. AGA continues to examine the use of technology and lessons learned from other countries. AGA also has a history of working cooperatively with the federal government, and enforcing relevant laws such as the Wire Act, Internet Gaming Enforcement Act, and various money laundering laws.
